BHS OPEn GARDEn-1

Dear Members and Friends,

We are excited to finish our Open Garden Season at the lovely Nature Care Garden Centre, located on Rising Sun Road, Balls, Christ Church. You will find a garden enthusiast’s paradise…

Established in 1983, Nature Care is a leader in the horticultural industry. With this in mind, they decided to have a Garden Centre like no other in the Southern Caribbean. A long time dream of the Management and Staff; they made it a reality in December 2016. After four months of tireless work, the team at Nature Care opened their doors just six days before Christmas. Nature Care sells a huge variety of indoor and outdoor plants, trees, pots, compost, tools, garden furniture, accessories and lots more.

What many don’t realize is that with this transformation, came Nature Care’s beautiful gardens. Upon leaving the parking area you will enter the ‘gift shop’. A greenhouse structure filled with treasures… beautiful lanterns, cushions, decorative accessories and even something special for the kids. Along the Cordia avenue filled with an array of colourful glazed pots, you will arrive at the ‘Ggreenhouse’, an indoor plant lover’s dream. Here you will find stunning Orchids, Anthuriums, Roses, Spathiphyllums, Ferns, Chrysanthemums, Kalanchoe, Cacti and Succulents, along with your garden regulars of potting mixes, fertilizers and tools. The next avenue is filled with a mix of trees such as Frangipani, Ficus, Black Pearl and Cassia, flanked by a wide variety of outdoor shrubs, ground covers, climbers and terracotta pots.

Which brings you to the gardens…

At the entrance to the garden, you will see a beautiful orange pergola, dripping with the gorgeous blue flowers of Thunbergia grandiflora. At the centre of the garden, which spreads over two acres, you will find a large pond filled with fish and a few baby turtles. Over the bridge and through the Bamboo trail, look to your right and see if you can catch a glimpse of the impressive limestone coral. Along your journey around the pond you will find a variety of plants. Oleander, Bougainvillea, Ornamental Grasses, Bromeliads, Coconuts, Palms, Hibiscus, Texas sage, Lantana, Mahogany trees, St. Philip Allamanda, Seagrape and Scaevola. Then, its over the rocky watercourse and onto the events lawn. Sit, relax and enjoy a peaceful moment in the shade of the Ficus lyrata, before you make your way to the ornamental garden. Here you will find Begonia, Pedilanthus, Gingers, Alocasia, Travelers Palms, Heliconia, Clerodendron, Philodendron, Red Dracaena, Bottle Brush tree, Acalyphas, Papyrus, Zebra plants and much more. This brings you to the spectacular Gazebo with a stunning flower inspired light fixture by local artist John Burgess, overlooking the pond and gardens. The home of the Dragonfly Bistro. Grilled lunch will be available from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and the BHS will be serving Teas and Cold drinks from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
